Reset Volvo Service Light on V40, V50, V60, & V70 Models:

Some older model Volvo vehicles require a scan tool to reset the service light. But starting in 1998, Volvo added the ability to reset the oil change (or service light) with a series of steps using the instrument cluster buttons, eliminating the need for a scan tool. The steps are fairly simple to reset Volvo service light on V40, V50, V60, & V70 models, but if you are more of a visual learner, you can check out our video demonstration for more clarity.

2014-2015

  1. Turn the ignition switch to position I (ACC)
  2. Press and hold the OK button on the turn signal arm
  3. Continue to hold OK button and turn the ignition switch to position II (RUN)
  4. Wait about 10 seconds and release the button once the information light begins to flash
  5. Turn the ignition switch back to the OFF position for 3 minutes and then restart to confirm reset is completed

2002-2013:

  1. Turn ignition switch to position I (ACC)
  2. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button
  3. Turn ignition switch to position II (RUN) within 2 seconds
  4. Hold reset button until original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed (For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released)
  5. Release the button within 4 seconds after it begins to flash
  6. There will be an audible signal when the reset is successful

OR w/ Push Start

  1. Turn ignition switch to position I (ACC)
  2. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button
  3. Turn ignition switch to position II (RUN) within 2 seconds
  4. Hold reset button until original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed (For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released)
  5. Release the button within 4 seconds after it begins to flash
  6. There will be an audible signal when the reset is successful

2001

  1. Turn ignition switch to position I (ACC)
  2. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button
  3. Turn the ignition switch to position II (RUN) within 5 seconds
  4. Hold for 10 seconds or until the service light begins to flash
  5. Release the button within 5 seconds after it begins to flash
  6. There will be an audible signal when the reset is successful

1999-2000

  1. Insert key in ignition and leave in the OFF position
  2. Press and hold the odometer reset button and turn ignition switch to position II (RUN)
  3. Hold for 10 seconds or until the service light begins to flash
  4. Release the button within 4 seconds after it begins to flash
  5. Turn ignition off and back on to confirm reset was successful

1998

  1. Turn ignition switch to position I (ACC)
  2. Press and hold the odometer reset button and turn the ignition to position II (RUN)
  3. Hold for 10 seconds or until the service light begins to flash
  4. Release the button within 4 seconds after it begins to flash
  5. Turn ignition off and back on to confirm reset was successful
    ** NOTE: On early version VDO instrument panels, SERVICE light can only be reset with a scan tool

OR

  1. Remove rubber plug from left side of instrument panel display (Be careful not to scratch glass)
  2. Press button in as far as it will go
  3. Reinstall rubber plug
    ** NOTE: On early version VDO instrument panels, SERVICE light can only be reset with a scan tool

1990-1997

  1. This model year does not have a manual reset procedure for the service light and Volvo requires the use of a scan tool to reset maintenance light
